Art Celebrations at Hawthorn House Care Home!

What a fantastic celebration event we had last week at Hawthorn House Care to unveil the intergenerational artwork by residents and sixth form Art Students from Bloomfield Collegiate School!

Under the expert guidance of Heather Cassidy BOOM Studios and Wild & Crafted Creative Workshops the group explored and grew their artistic capabilities, confidence and most importantly friendships!  Their activities were themed around the Autumn season using mixed art techniques and nature objects weekly to create pieces for a Wall Hanging.

Joanna Holland Age-friendly Officer for Belfast City Council attended to unveil the art piece which will hang proudly in Hawthorn House as a legacy of the project. Some filming took place supported by Johnny from Belfast City Council with the aim of showcasing the importance of intergenerational work as part of their Christmas Campaign.

It was also great to have a surprise visit from Vicki's Dachshund pup Poppy who filled the room with smiles and cuddles!

A massive well done to everyone involved and special thanks to Fiona Martin (Hawthorn House), Mrs Monteith, Mrs Brown and Mrs Martin (Bloomfield Teachers) and Heather Cassidy Artist.

Both Hawthorn and Bloomfield Collegiate have now formed a great link and working relationship with plans to continue to work together when possible which is the biggest success for LGNI! We can't wait to hear your future updates!

This project was one of four intergenerational arts projects as part of LGNI's Art Across Ages Project funded by the Arts Council Arts for Older People Programme.  More info on this project here Art Across Ages Project – Linking Generations NI
