Connect IT Project Report Launched!

We are delighted to launch this report detailing the activities and findings of this fantastic intergenerational digital inclusion project funded by the Dept. Of Finance GO ON NI programme.

LGNI partnered with the Department of Finance's Go ON NI team to develop two intergenerational project supporting the digital inclusion of older people - the Connect-IT Project.  Go ON NI is an initiative designed to help individuals get online safely, improve their digital skills, and become more confident with technology.

As part of this project LGNI supported two intergenerational projects with post primary school pupils and older people.  The participating schools/settings were:

  • Bloomfield Collegiate Belfast and Johnston Court (Alpha Housing)
  • Assumption Grammar Ballynahinch and Grove House Age NI Day Centre

The Bloomfield and Johnston Court project took place in early 2025 with the older people visiting the school's computer suite to be teamed up with a pupil mentor.  The 1 to 1 approach enabled the pupils to support their older friends with all of their digital/online queries and have a lot of laughs at the same time!

The Assumption and Grove House project took place in late 2025 with pupils visiting Grove House and support from Barclays with access to digital equipment.  The older people enjoyed finding out more about how to use their own devices but were keen to engage in arts and crafts.  The pupils utilised the internet to find craft ideas and also showed how Youtube can be used to play your favourite music.
