LGNI partnered with the Department of Finance's Go ON NI team to develop two intergenerational project supporting the digital inclusion of older people - the Connect-IT Project. Go ON NI is an initiative designed to help individuals get online safely, improve their digital skills, and become more confident with technology.
Digital inclusion activities fit so well with intergenerational engagement as young people today have so much experience of the online world and in turn older people have a lot of life experience to share!
The first of our projects as part of the Connect-IT project was a massive success and connected pupils from Bloomfield Collegiate with tenants of nearby Alpha Housing Scheme Johnson Court. Over 6 session the pupils supported their older neighbours with digital technology and internet interests and challenges that they had identified. A big well done to all involved who increased their skills but also built relationships and most importantly had a laugh!
The second project has been postponed until the new term in September and is provisionally planned to take place in Ballynahinch. Watch this space for more news and also an evaluation report on completion!
