'Reap What You Sow Through Art' Project

LGNI are delighted to have been awarded funding from the Arts Council of Northern Ireland REAP Rural Engagement Arts Programme.  The overarching theme of the programme is to tackle isolation and loneliness and promote social inclusion and wellbeing through participation in the arts for those living in rural communities.

Project Aims:

Through the 'Reap What You Sow Through Art' project, Linking Generations NI (LGNI) will engage older people and school pupils in three rural areas across NI, to take part in intergenerational art projects that aim to address loneliness and social isolation and have a positive impact on their mental health and wellbeing.

LGNI aims to work in three rural communities to:

  • Use the medium of arts to create links between generations in rural communities, improving community connections through participation in the arts.
  • Create sustainable opportunities for continued intergenerational arts, by creating partnerships between schools and older people's groups in areas where these opportunities are limited due to locality.
  • Promote the benefits of the approach by showcasing and recognising arts produced by the partnerships and the project.
  • Provide community arts opportunities for local artists.

Our partners in this project include:

  • Saintfield Men's Shed and Saintfield High School
  • Sion Mills Community Association and Sion Mills Integrated Primary School
  • Portaferry Community Services and Portaferry Integrated Primary School
