LGNI's Director Vicki was delighted to meet Education Minister Paul Givan on the 1st October during his visit to showcase the fantastic intergenerational partnership between Linking Generations Northern Ireland, Education Authority (Northern Ireland) EOTAS Lurgan, Ozanam Men's Shed and Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council PCSP.
Staff and participants from EOTAS, The Men's Shed and ABC PCSP participated in LGNI's UK Lottery Partnership Project Creating Intergenerational Communities - aimed at developing Quality and Sustainable intergenerational practice across the UK by providing practitioners with training, support, networking and a quality toolkit.
The purpose of the visit was to highlight the importance of LGNI's capacity building services and the contribution that intergenerational connection and activities make to educational outcomes as well as mental health, wellbeing, community safety and community cohesion.
Thanks to all involved and congratulations to our partners EOTAS, The Men's Shed and ABC PCSP who together will now sustain their intergenerational links into the future 🙏
Intergenerational approaches have so much potential to add value to existing work in communities, schools and settings across NI. LGNI really need a cross department funding approach for our work so that we can support local people to take the lead in developing their own intergenerational activity! LGNI know that Capacity building works and contributes to a truly Age-friendly NI!
