LinkAge & Arts
LGNI are delighted to have once again been awarded funding from the Arts Council of Northern Ireland Arts for Older People Fund.
Aims
Through this project Linking Generations NI (LGNI) will engage care home residents and school children in intergenerational arts projects that aim to address social isolation and have a positive impact on mental health and wellbeing.
Specifically, we aim to:
- Use the medium of arts to create linkages between generations in communities improving older people's community connections through participation in the arts
- Create sustainable opportunities for continued intergenerational arts by creating partnerships between schools and care homes
- Promote the benefits of the approach by showcasing and recognising arts produced by older people and the project
- Provide community arts opportunities for local artists.
Our participating Care Homes & Schools include:
- Marina Care Home & Woods Primary School Magherafelt
- Movilla House Nursing Home & Movilla High School Newtownards
- County Care Home & Model Primary School Enniskillen
- Ringdufferin Nursing Home & Killyleagh Primary School
Care Home Residents will join with school pupils and take part in intergenerational arts sessions facilitated by local artist for six weeks. The artwork and success will be showcased at individual events at each care setting. LGNI staff are delivering Dementia Friend training to all of the young people involved and will be supporting all settings involved to sustain their wonderful working relationships and connections!
