Arty Generations Project

This amazing intergenerational arts project funded by the Arts Council NI Arts for Older People Programme will support new links and art activities between school pupils and older people!

Arty Generations Project

LGNI are delighted to have once again been awarded funding from the Arts Council of Northern Ireland Arts for Older People Fund.

Project Aims:

Through this project Linking Generations NI (LGNI) will create new links between schools and older peoples groups and settings across NI.  The school pupils and older people will engage in intergenerational arts activities together that will aim to address social isolation and have a positive impact on the mental health and wellbeing of all involved.

Specifically the project will aim to:

  • Use the medium of arts to create linkages between generations in communities improving older people's community connections through participation in the arts
  • Create sustainable opportunities for continued intergenerational arts by creating partnerships between schools and care homes
  • Promote the benefits of the approach by showcasing and recognising arts produced by older people and the project
  • Provide community arts opportunities for local artists.

Our participating Schools and older peoples groups/settings include:

  • Antrim Newtownabbey Senior’s Forum and Glengormley Integrated Primary School
  • Cloughmills Golden Oldies and Cloughmills Primary School
  • CareMark Dementia Cafe Bangor and Bloomfield Primary School

LGNI staff will support links between the participating settings, will be delivering Dementia Awareness sessions with all of the children involved in the project, identifying local artists and then supporting the delivery of 6 intergenerational arts sessions.

We look forward to seeing these exciting links progress and watch this space for progress, photos and related news items!
